Eyes closed, Virginia waits for roof to fall
The commonwealth of Virginia owns more than 11,300 buildings, ranging from college dormitories to snowplow sheds to Thomas Jefferson's Capitol. Officials have historically had no way to get a good estimate of maintenance needs, but over the past five years they've been assembling a database to keep track.
